Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Financing (WASH-FIN)
SEGURA Consulting LLC, serving as subcontractor to Tetra Tech, Inc., is taking part in the implementation of a five year contract to provide technical assistance to the USAID Water Office. Under the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Financing (WASH-FIN) project, Tetra Tech and SEGURA Consulting support USAID in its efforts to close financing gaps to achieve universal access to water and sanitation services through sustainable and creditworthy business models, increased public funding and expanded market finance for infrastructure investment.
Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services are essential to economic growth, public health, development and strengthening climate resilience. Globally, 663 million people do not have access to basic drinking water and 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation. Governments, development partners, investment banks and civil society are cooperating to close the financing gap for universal WASH access.
In support of the growing WASH financing agenda, the WASH-FIN project provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with governments, development partners and civil society, to build a foundation for expanding sustainable WASH services by improving financial viability, increasing public and private investment into the sector, and learning from and replicating successful finance models that yield tangible results for customers in unserved or underserved target populations.
WASH-FIN promotes viable models of affordable financial services that expand or improve water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) service provision in USAID’s Water and Development Strategy (WDS) priority countries, as well as the wider sector. WASH-FIN’s approach to closing financing gaps is based on the premise that citizens should be treated as valued customers and adequately served by WASH service providers operating on sustainable business models that strengthen creditworthiness, within clear regulatory and governance structures.
